Mohamed AMARA

Mohamed AMARA graduated from Algiers and Pierre and Marie Curie Universities. He received his PhD in applied mathematics in 1983 from Pierre and Marie Curie University. He is Exceptional Class Professor at Université de Pau et des Pays de l’Adour (France).

He was successfully:

  • Research scientist at Ecole Polytechnique, Palaiseau, France (1978 – 1982)
  • Research scientist at Société Nationale de l’Electricité et du Gaz, Algiers (1983 – 1992)
  • Full Professor at Université des Sciences et Technologies d’Alger, Algiers (1986 – 1994)
  • Full Professor at Ecole Polytechnique de Tunis (1994 – 1995)
  • Associate Professor at Université Pierre et Marie Curie, Paris 6 (1995)
  • Research Associate at INRIA Team Magique-3D (2006-2012)
  • Full Professor at Université de Pau et des pays de l’Adour (since 1996).

From 1999 to 2007, he was director of the Applied Mathematics Laboratory CNRS-UMR5142 at Université de Pau et des Pays de l’Adour. From 2007 to 2008, he was director of the doctoral school of Exact Sciences and Applications ED211.
He also was in charge of the mathematics at the National Research Agency (ANR, Paris) from 2007 to 2011. He was president of the Université de Pau et des Pays de l’Adour from may 2012 to December 2020.

His major interests are on applied mathematics, numerical simulation and numerical analysis for fluids dynamics and porous fluid mechanics. He has co-authored more than 40 refereed papers and has 70 invited or keynote lectures at conferences. He directed 20 doctorates in applied mathematics and he has coordinated more than 15 contracts with industrial partners.
He is since 2015 a founding member of the Algerian Academy of Sciences and Technologies.
