Khedidja Allia is a Chemical Engineering Professor and Research Director renowned for her significant contributions to academia and scientific research. Her remarkable career spans teaching, research, and the supervision of students at various levels, including Ph.D. and master’s programs. She began her academic journey at the Ecole Nationale Polytechnique (ENP) in Algiers and later joined the University of Sciences and Technology (USTHB) in Algiers to establish and develop the Industrial Chemistry Institute.
She holds an Engineering Diploma in Chemical Engineering from ENP and pursued postgraduate studies in Fluid Mechanics at the University of Algiers. She earned her Doctorate Es Science in Chemical Engineering from ENP, supplemented by additional studies at the Thames Polytechnic School in London, Great Britain. Her areas of expertise include multiphase systems, such as two-phase flow, three-phase fluidized bed reactors (TFBR), and transfer and flow in porous media. Additionally, her work in environmental engineering covers wastewater treatment and solid waste management. Prof. Khedidja Allia has also ventured into transdisciplinary topics within social and human sciences related to engineering education, focusing on ethics and disaster risk reduction (DRR). Her valuable research contributions have been published in reputable scientific journals and presented at both national and international conferences.
Throughout her career, Prof. Khedidja Allia has played a pivotal role in numerous national and international research projects, including CNEPRU, PNR, and Powder Technology at the University of Compiegne, France. She has served as a researcher at DRD (SONATRACH), a Fulbright Researcher at Cornell University’s Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering in Ithaca, New York, USA, and an expert for UNESCO.
Prof. Khedidja Allia has held several significant leadership positions, notably as the Director of the North African Centre for Engineering and Technology Education (NACETE), a satellite of UICEE – UNESCO. She also served as the Director of Higher Education in the Ministry (MESRS) and as Director of the Industrial Chemistry Institute at USTHB. Additionally, she was the Head of the Chemical Engineering Department at ENP. Beyond her administrative responsibilities, she chaired the scientific councils of both the Industrial Chemistry Institute (USTHB) and the Chemical Engineering Department at ENP. She played a key role in coordinating commissions on higher education reform and the adequacy of training in industrial chemistry. She also headed the Maghreb Equivalence Systems Commission and played an important role in PURAQ (Pôle universitaire et de recherches Algéro-Québécois).
Prof. Khedidja Allia’s professional affiliations include membership in the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (A.I.C.H.E) and the Arab Network for Environmental Ethics (ANEE). As a founding member of AFCARE (Association of Women Managers), she actively promotes women’s leadership in engineering. She also chairs the Algerian Scientific Association for promoting Engineering Sciences (TAHENDUS) and contributes to ethical discussions as a member of the Advisory Committee of the Bioethics Arab Region Network, a position she has held since 2013 under the auspices of UNESCO.
Prof. Khedidja Allia’s notable has garnered numerous honors, such as recognition from the President of the Algerian Republic, the Silver Medal from the UNESCO International Centre for Engineering Education (UICEE) in Mumbai, India, the UICEE Gold Medal at Brooklyn Polytechnic University in New York, USA, and the UICEE Order for Excellence in Engineering Education at the Piraeus Technical Institute in Athens, Greece.
Member of the Algerian Academy of Science and Technology (AAST) since 2015 and since 2023, Prof. Khedidja Allia has had the honor of chairing the Commission in charge of Scientific and Technological Communication and Mediatization (CCMST). Additionally, she is privileged to serve on two IAP Committees: the IAP “Statements Governance Committee” and the IAP “Capacity Building Committee.” In 2024, she joined the International Advisory Committee of ICOME2024, a prestigious conference on Materials and Energy co-organized by IEEE Thailand Section, PES, and IEEE Joint IAS/IES/PELS Thailand Chapter.
