The conference begins by outlining the skills (Near Eastern, Iberian, Maghrebian, Persian) and theoretical knowledge (Greek and Byzantine) inherited from ancient societies, which were at the source of considerable engineering development in Islamic countries.
The second part presents the most important contributions, recorded in written sources or archaeology, from the IXth century and beyond.
