The President of the Algerian Academy of Science and Technology (AAST), Prof. Mohamed Hichem Kara, has announced the opening of applications for membership of the Academy.
Algerian researchers and scholars, whether resident in Algeria or abroad, can register on the digital platform (www.aast.dz) from July 11 to September 10.
During an information day at the National Library of Algeria, attended by several personalities and officials, Mr. Kara indicated that the Academy aims to select 25 new members. This initiative is part of the reforms carried out under the directives of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to relaunch and diversify the national economy through scientific and technological development.
Created in 2015, AAST is an independent consultative institution comprising Algerian and international scientific figures. It currently has 43 founding members. The aim is to reach a total of 250 members, including 50 associate members of different nationalities.
Mr. Kara emphasized that membership of the Academy represents both an honor and a responsibility. Elected members must actively participate in the Academy’s missions of reflection, analysis and proposal, thus contributing to scientific and technological progress in Algeria.
Yacine El Mahdi Oualid, Minister of the Knowledge Economy, Start-ups and Micro-enterprises, recalled the Academy’s crucial role in guiding government policies on scientific and technological development.
He also referred to Algeria’s efforts to support innovation and research, notably through the draft bill on the knowledge economy and startups.
Finally, a call for applications for the Academy’s Grand Prize “Young Researcher’s Prize” will be launched on July 11 from Constantine, aimed at supporting young Algerian researchers in various scientific and technological fields.
