Constantine: call for applications for the grand prize of the aast.

CONSTANTINE – A call for applications for participation in the first edition of the “Grand Prize” of the Algerian Academy of Science and Technology (AAST) was launched on Thursday from Constantine by the president of this organization, Prof. Mohamed Hichem Kara.

The Grand Prize of the AAST is a distinction awarded by this authority to a young researcher, in recognition of his or her work which contributes to the development of science, pointed out Pr Kara, who further specified that the prize reflects the commitment and determination of the AAST to recognize and highlight the exceptional achievements in the area of science and technology in Algeria.
The launch of the application for the AAST Grand Prize, held during an open day at the Center for Biotechnology Research (CRBT) in Constantine, was an opportunity for Mr. Kara to highlight the functioning and missions of AAST, which aim to promote scientific and technological life and support the production of knowledge and skills, notably among young people.

The president of AAST, who highlighted the symbolic nature of the launch date for applications of the Grand Priz, coinciding with the celebration of the 62nd anniversary ofAlgeria’s independance indicated that the choice of Constantine to launch such a challenge was made due to the city’s status as a real center of knowledge, bloastering significant infrastructure and scientific achievements.

The encouragement and support of young people, especially in the field of science and research, is one of the main commitments of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune,” pointed out the President, who called on all those involved in research and science to widely disseminate the call for applications for this Grand Prize, to enable as many young people as possible to take part in this ‘scientific opportunity’.

The AAST Grand Prix should enable the discovery of the talents and innovations among young Algerians, and their ability to contribute to the development of science and technology, explained Prof. Kara, adding that the call for applications came following the Academy’s conclusion of all the necessary legal procedures, following its inclusion in the country’s Constitution as a consultative body, and the recent adoption of its rules of procedure.

Praising the commitment of the President of the Republic, who has provided AAST with all the tools necessary for its operation, Pr Kara said that this was a “recognition” that would contribute to the realization of the President’s program for the implementation of projects aimed at diversifying the national economy, taking into account scientific and technological developments.

To be eligible, applicants must be of Algerian nationality and practicing in a scientific teaching or research establishment accredited in Algeria, said Prof. Lounis, who added that applicants must be under 40 years of age on December 31, 2024, and have made a significant and recognized contribution in one of the fields covered by the Grand Prize. They must also have carried out their work in Algeria, and adhere to the principles of scientific ethics and moral integrity.

Stating that the AAST prize will be conferred on the winner at the annual solemn assembly, Prof. Lounis pointed out that the deadline for applications is September 10, 2024, noting that the jury accepts no appeals.

The criteria for selecting the works will take into account scientific excellence, originality and innovation, recognition and renown, collaboration and knowledge transfer, in addition to the quality and impact of the research work in the socio-economic sector, noted the Chairman of the Awards Committee.
