Annual Meeting of the African Academies of Sciences (AMASA) and 14th General Assembly of the Network of African Academies (NASAC) – Cotonou (Benin), November 11-15, 2018

The National Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters of Benin (ANSALB) hosted the fourteenth annual meeting of African Academies of Sciences (AMASA’14) from November 11 to 16, 2018. The theme of the meeting was ”Sustainable development in Africa: the role of young and old science academies”. The aim was to explore the role that African academies might play in achieving the objectives of the Agenda 2030 on sustainable development, adopted in 2015 by the member states of the United Nations.
The meeting was opened by Her Excellency the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research of Benin, Marie-Odile ATTANASSO, representing the President of the Republic, His Excellency Mr. Patrice TALON. This event is associated with the official opening of the National Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters of Benin (ANSALB).
NASAC gathers 26 countries of the continent and convenes annually. The Algerian Academy of Science and Technology (AAST) attended the meeting for the first time. It was represented by Mr. Mohamed Hichem KARA, Professor at the University of Annaba, specialist in biological oceanography, founding member and Vice-President of AAST.
